REVGYM & FIGHT-U WEEK OF 07.29.24

REVGYM & FIGHT UNIVERSITY TRIBE -

“BELIEVE” RND 3:

“Do you feel it in your bones son?”

My father asked me about this on just a few occasions.

First, during warm ups at a track competition at the state level at the age of 6 or 7. I was scared to death. I was running against older, bigger kids, that looked like they’d kill me when I beat them. Notice I didn’t say “if I beat them”. I had the confidence and knew I would win… I was more concerned about how it would effect others… a pattern that would stick with me for a looooong time.

I answered my father “Yeah dad, I guess?” (Cuz I’m 6 or 7, and WTF does that mean?)

He went on with, “If you feel it in your bones, it’s already a part of you, no one can take that feeling away. It’s yours. Yours to win or lose. Just feel it son.”

I got it…

So I did, and I won.

The next time was years later, when my father showed up to a national martial arts championship I was fighting in, (he hadn’t been able to bring himself to watch me for the first 11 or 12 years of me fighting), he showed up and was checking out my hand wrapping job on the sidelines, and just looked at me while holding my hands. His gaze went from my hands, to my face, and back and forth a few times. His eyes were filling a bit… he didn’t want fighting for me, or for him. Wasn’t his thing. Before he could get past “Do you…” I answered, “Yeah dad, all through my bones, watch this…” And I went on to win my first national championship.

The third time, was my first marriage. I went to my dad, told him I was thinking about marrying Monica, and he said, “Son, sit down.”… So we sat at his dining table, and he opened with, “You don’t ever HAVE to get married… you can love someone, live with them, not live with them, lose them tomorrow…” and he kind of trailed off and looked away. He was projecting from walking away from a true love he’d had, and didn’t want me to experience the same pain. He collected his feelings, thoughts, then lightly tapping the dining table, asked, “Do you feel her in your bones?”… I answered, “I think so…”. And I wanted to believe I did. I wanted the idea of Monica and I married to be the right thing… It wasn’t. We soon figured out that neither of us truly felt it “..in our bones.”. We split just after a year and a half.

I’ve done my damndest to pay attention to that feeling on any bigger scale or life decision since. I’ve been wrong several times… and it was painful, still is. I’ve been caught in what “I wanted”, not what “I felt in my bones”. The feeling runs and resides deep when you are truly doing the thing(s) that resonate with your purpose, who you have become on your path at that very moment, the clear path of who you will be, and how it may effect and affect, all you come in touch with. And… it may shift into a bigger thing than you could have imagined… Like the right “one”, that resonates so deep in your bones, and at such a level, you feel fucking harmonic in their presence. Or children, that show you a love that saves your life…

Purpose becomes reverent.

The “WHY” grows… so must your belief.

It has become easier over the last several years for me to quiet myself, listen, pray, listen, meditate, listen, train relentlessly, listen, watch, listen, then feel. We can not forget who we are. We can not forget where we came from. We can not forget the sacrifices we, and others, have made in the name of our purpose, our why. We must own all of that, honor it, then act… again & again.

When you “feel it in your bones”, this resonance is in alignment with your gifts, zone of genius, and your “why”. Time falls away. Work doesn’t feel like work. Struggle, pain, and even suffering are welcomed. You don’t “tire” from the strain of effort.. your tired comes from progress, from leaning in… it’s a “well deserved tired”; as opposed to a tired from stress, worry, or fear. You sleep deeper, think more clearly, carry a level of calm and confidence, because you are on your path.

You can’t think your way into “feeling it in your bones”. It’s experienced. Your why, your belief in your why, will come from triumph through struggle. Believe in the power of opportunity to overcome. Overcoming hardship, pain, confusion, obstacles.. it’s all opportunity.

Connect with the sensation you get when you finish our sessions in the gym or on the mat. Those times when you struggled most… allowed yourself to struggle the most, and came through the other side. Feel those sensations in your bones.. let it set in, at the most primitive level.

Each day is “day one” and “our last day”… treat the struggle, the day, yourself, and others with that in mind.

Staying in the place of “feeling it in your bones” is a challenge… things will pull you away, trip you up, push you down… let all of that be more “opportunity”… not condemnation or a reason to fail. You will fail. Learn from it… feel the failures on your bones as well, and do your best to never repeat that same pain again. Pay attention to your intention.

Feel it, act on it, lean into it, live it.

I’ve since allowed myself to feel love from others that has resonated in my bones… it still does, and that driving force is what guides me today to leave a legacy for my family, and all of you.

In times of doubt, I’ve felt God, and all of you there, believing.

Thank you.

You’re belief in what we do here, in yourselves, in your “why” has also driven me.

Also, Thank You for the opportunity to come alongside all of you on your journeys… I’m honored.

Get ready… even bigger things are coming!!!

See you in the DeepWater, Tribe!
